The Cost of Alzheimer's to Employers
Every year employers are confronted with the difficult choice of granting employees time off to care for family members. According to a recent study by MetLife Insurance, the figure involving time off from work to care for loved ones with Alzheimer's is staggering. In the United States alone, the cost is 34 billion dollars annually in lost productivity. The study indicates employees missed time from work to care for family members 50 years old and above. The number of people diagnosed with Alzheimer's is expected to rise over the next decade as baby boomers retire and life expectancies continue to expand.
